50th anniversary celebration of the Ordination to the Priesthood

Sunday, July 27th, 2008, marked the Golden Jubilee (50th Anniversary)
of the Ordination of the Reverend Canon Arthur Hoskins Huggins to the
Sacred Order of Priests.

The feed-back received has been very positive. We are told that everything went well.
The service was attended by the Governor-General and other members of Parliament.

"It's all over it was a good Service, The Rev. Canon  Leopold C. Baynes preached, he was very good.
There were 14 Priests and a Roman Catholic  Bishop, a friend from Grenada .
21 of his [Canon Huggins] congregation from St.Croix came over they were very nice people, also about 5 from Grenada.
About 500 people attended and about 200 came to the Reception afterwards .Everything went well."
Congratulations to the Rector-The Ven. Dr. Sylvanus H. A. Regisford and to The Rev. Fr. E. Ulric C-Jones for coordinating the development of the Service Journal.
Kudos to all involved in the process. Well-done!!
Thanks, Sutty for the update and the pictures.

Obituary - The Rev'd Canon Arthur Hoskins Huggins
Greetings!

We are saddened by the passing of the Rev' d Canon Arthur Hoskins Huggins of Golden Vale,
St. Vincent and the Grenadines, who died at 6:30am this morning 28th October, 2016, at his
home.
Canon Huggins was ordained to the sacred Priesthood on the 26th July, 1958 and served in
several parishes and capacities: Rector of Holy Trinity, Georgetown, Rector St.
Patrick, Sauteurs, Grenada, Rector St. George's Parish Church, and Archdeacon of Grenada,
Rector of the Cathedral P.arish of St. George's and St. Andrew, and Dean of the St. George's
Cathedral Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and also as V1car General. He also
served on the Diocesan Board of Finance, the Incorporated Trustees, the Diocesan Council.
The Anglican Education Central Board of Management, Board of Governors of the Anglican
High School, Bishop's College, Carriacou and the St. Andrew's Anglican Secondary School,
Grenada, as well as Bishop's College Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Canon Huggins will be remembered for his deep and abiding faith in God. He was one who
spoke the truth in love to power.
He was a disciplinarian; some may remember him in his white cassock w~th the black
leather belt around his waist.
He will be remembered for his dedication to pastoral ministry; one can remember his visits
from house to house, through the villages in the parishes where he served. He has a great
love for people and went looking for the lost or lapsed souls.
We extend our deepest Sympathy to his wife Anne, children Vanessa, Jason and Nicholas
and only surviving sibling Alfred "Sutty" Huggins and other relatives and friends. Rest
Eternal, Grant unto him 0 Lord; and let light perpetual shine upon him. May he rest in
peace. Amen.
With every good wish and God's Blessings!

Sincerely,

The Rt. Rev' d C. Leopold Friday

Canon Hoskins Huggins – A Tribute

Canon Huggins!  How we loved you
To God you were always true
As a youngster I heard the story
That you were marked for God’s glory
Before you even made the start
You certainly looked the part.
With all people you blended well
That is the tale everyone would tell
Study took you away from us
Which for St. Paul’s was a plus
A full fledged Priest you became
Yet to us you were still the same.
I recall my brother’s note of caution
That I should now forget the notion
Of using the once familiar name
Which was normal in another time frame
Father Huggins I was told to say
So try to get used to it right away.
Much time was spent visiting your flock
With no thought of checking the clock
Now we give God thanks and praise
For your service and length of days
Canon Huggins, may your sleep be sweet
Till resurrection morn when we will meet.

June Isaacs-Mascoll

CONDOLENCES TO THE HUGGINS FAMILY

We extend our sincere condolences to the family of our dear Fr. Hoskins Huggins, a stalwart and much beloved member of our community. He has left quite an outstanding legacy and will be remembered with love and devotion. He will be sadly missed and never forgotten. We keep his famiy in our thoughts and prayers at this sad time. The Huggins family has a long history with St. Paul's, Calliaqua.  The stained glass window in the sanctuary is a tangible reminder.

Good afternoon Fr. Jones, please accept our sympathies on your loss. He was a good soul and will be missed by all. We have had very good memories of him and his visits with us at St. James the Less church family in Queens, NY.

Will keep the family and all others in our prayers. God's peace to you all. Give my love to the family, and thank you for the information.

Canon Huggins has left an indelible mark of pastoral ministry to be emulated by all, particularly fledgling parish priest like myself. I can recall when others were reluctant to embrace a woman priest, Canon Huggins braved the critics and took me in hand. Can hear his strong voice guiding me through ''ejaculatory prayer', as a model for ministerial development.
We take heart in the words of Wisdom. 3:1 "but, the souls of the righteous are in the hand of the Lord!
"Condolence to his family from priest and congregrants of the Parish of St. James with St. Mary. May his soul Rest in peace!

I write to express my sincere condolence on the death of Rev. Canon Arthur Hoskins
Huggins. His untiring love for all people, his house visits, for his quest to reach those
who were downtrodden will be remembered by many. His witness and faith to serve and
witness the Jesus Movement to the Good News of God’s liberating love made known to
us in Jesus of Nazareth was strong and courageous.
